The institutes on alcohol abuse are great initiative that promotes & supports against alcoholism and strives to spread the health benefits for all. Alcoholism abuse is growing at a great pace. The life style today is so stressful that people tend to get to the easy resort of consuming alcohol and drugs. The time is such that not only the colleges, but the school kids are not untouched by the alcohol and drugs. Looking at the need, there are various centers offering help and treatments. Such institutes have become quite dense. The sole reason of such centers is to simply control and cure alcoholism. Having said that it really doesn’t matter how many of such centers are inaugurated, till the time people themselves does not realize that alcohol and drug could not only deteriorate their health, but would also ruin their family life. There are many initiatives taken at national level as well like by the national institute on alcohol abuse and alcoholism to control and provide treatments free or at subsidized cost, the only endeavor being saving the society from the clutches of alcoholism abuse.

As a responsible individual, one must contribute by shouldering the responsibility of checking for alcohol addicts in once own vicinity. Small contributions such as directing people to alcohol treatments, making them understand the real endeavor of such initiates and moreover, motivating the non-alcoholics to support individuals who are addicted rather than think of them as a taboo. This would really make a difference. One national institute on alcoholism and alcoholism despite doing its best can’t make a change in the society; it is us who would take small steps to eliminate alcohol abuse with a broader vision of help & support to such addicts. Understanding the people, who have gotten into the vicious circle of alcoholism, by extending love and care instead of treating them as untouchables, could be certain small steps that could help the victims of alcoholism abuse go a long way – by the end of which, they would gain the same respect and social status that they had before being addicted.

Alcohol treatments would help the addicts to get rid of the addiction but it is our responsibility to give these addicts an environment of support & motivation which would help then to rebuild their identity. The science of health and treatment of alcoholism abuse could be prevented by –

Spreading awareness around the biological behaviors & functioning related to alcohol abuse.
Improvising the quality of diagnosis, treatment and prevention of alcoholism.
Promoting better health care.

Alcohol addiction is lethal in more ways than one. It is lethal to the individual. It destroys his sanity and his physique and renders him incapable of functioning. He becomes a burden and a menace to his family and society.

The physical and mental effects of alcoholism are all too well known. Physically he will become a wreck due to impaired bodily organs. His eyes, liver, heart, kidneys and brain are all affected and damaged. His mind and behavior are also adversely affected. His behavior is erratic. He throws tantrums or regresses into depression. His flashes of temper and outbursts harm his family and children. A breakup is inevitable and happens sooner or later. On the financial side too he is destroying himself. On the one hand he will have lost his job due to alcoholism and on the other he will be spending too much on drinks and less on other necessities of life for himself and his family. He might even get into a debt trap. A stage might arrive when he will sell of his home and his assets to meet his obligations or addiction needs. This will isolate and depress him still further into drinking more and more till he destroys himself absolutely.

The only way out is rehab at an alcohol addiction treatment center. Detox will finish his urge for alcoholism. A combination of family supports, counseling and motivational experiences will then push him towards recovery and becoming a positive individual. When he learns that the world does not revolve around him and he learns to be less self-centered and more outward looking and caring, he will realize that alcoholism is not the cure but an intensification of his problems so it is best left alone. Knowledge and action that follows from such knowledge leads to a sustained recovery. Life skills which he learns from counselors at addiction treatment centers give him this vital knowledge. Their encouragement and support of family and social groups help him practice this and make it a part of his daily life.

Choosing the right alcohol rehab clinic can be difficult and confusing but it is important and can be a key factor in whether a treatment programme succeeds or fails.

Each individual rehab clinic will have their own approach to alcohol treatment so you’ll need to do some research about different clinics and your needs. Research clinics yourself and seek out reliable information both online and from others. Someone else who’s been through alcohol dependency may be able to recommend a good clinic or give you advice on choosing one.

Obviously you’ll need to consider the price. Think about how much you can realistically afford and try not to overstretch yourself as this could make things worse, particularly if alcohol problems are linked to stress. A lot of people get help from their family or from some kind of loan but again, tread carefully to avoid debt problems.

Think about where the rehab centre is located in relation to your friends and loved one. If it’s too far away it may be difficult to receive visitors. It’s true that some people prefer not to have visitors, though. If quiet and isolation is important to you find out if the centre offers that.

What kind of accommodation does the rehab clinic offer? Some offer single rooms, whilst others are shared. Some people in treatment like to share a room but others want to have their own room.

Some types of treatment suit some people more than others and it’s important to know what’s on offer. Different clinics will offer different treatments. Ask at the clinic what treatments they offer and how each person’s treatment programme is decided.

Questions to ask

When you’re getting more information on rehab clinics you’ll probably want to go armed with a list of questions. Questions you might like to consider asking include:

What kind of treatment programmes does the centre offer?
What are the prices?
How long is the recommended stay?
What is the success rate?
Do you have any case studies/testimonials?
Are visitors allowed?
What are the rules?
What are the consequences of rule-breaking?
What is the detox process?
What detox medication is offered?
Who will work with me?
What qualifications do the staff have?
What is the ethos of the clinic?
What kind of aftercare is on offer?
