Ok, I am 20 years old now and I am no longer in denial of being an alcoholic. I realize it now. My life is so messed up and I want to change before things get even worse. The only problem is that now I am jobless again due to my alcoholism and I am close to broke. Do rehabs accept people with no insurance or a job even? Thank you…..

Dear One, Congratulations on your epiphany!!! You will have a great life being sober. I know of only one place to go and that is Salvation Army. They help you in every way possible. Be open, willing and honest, and all will be given to you. I am so proud of you! Take good care.

Question by Skull Boy: Does anyone know of any free drug/alcohol rehabs in So Cal?
I have a nephew that has a really bad alcohol and speed addiction. He’s been in the emergency room several times over the past two years and almost died the last time. He needs to go a rehab center, but the family can’t afford it. Does anyone know of any free rehab centers in So Cal? He lives in Victorville CA, but will travel if needed. It needs to be a place where he can stay. Out patient won’t work for him I’m afraid.

Wow, this is a bad situation. I went to inpatient treatment for alcohol a couple of years ago myself…and I am a completely different person now, thanks to treatment/the desire to heal/God’s grace. I wish I had some answers for you as far as facilities go, but I reside and was treated here in Virginia. if there is a Community Services Board in your area, that needs to be his first stop. They assess the person to establish “need for treatment” to form a diagnosis axis, and are the ones who make referrals to treatment facilities. They are publically funded, and should be able to cover his costs if he is categorized by the intake counselor as “indigent”. Get out the phonebook, make some calls…he can’t do it for himself right now…GOOD LUCK..to you, and him..

Colorado is a land of high mountains, canyons, gorges, the lush Colorado river, forests and flat plains that stretch over the horizon. It is a commercial hub and an industry center. It is home to a variety of people of different ethnic origins. It is also a place where alcoholism is rife and rampant due to the progress brought about by industrialization and commercial development.

Now a person may turn into an alcoholic casually. He may be consuming a couple of drinks a day as a means to relax and the quantity goes on increasing. For example he may be watching TV and drinking and this means more than a couple and then some more as time passes and before he knows it he is an alcoholic. There are others who drink to forget worries, failures, pains, sorrow, fears, anxieties, loss of jobs or any such traumatic and stressful situation. They drink themselves to oblivion and before long they are addicts. Then this becomes a way of life for them. They develop guilt feelings and a feeling of being worthless and are ashamed which leads them further to drinking more. This is a vicious cycle which will inevitably affect their health, their mental well being, their families and relationships and their careers. Utter ruin stares them in the face.

It is also likely that drunken driving will cause fatal accidents and innocents will suffer. Such victims who are maimed will often wonder if there are pest elimination services why can’t there be alcoholic elimination services.

Alcoholics are also likely to get into legal tangles sooner or later. Their behavior and mood swings are unpredictable and they are not in control of themselves.

If an alcoholic is a family member he is a constant source of worry, tension and anxieties besides being a financial and a social burden.

At work too he causes problems and ultimately he is thrown out.

An alcoholic may take to crime very easily to satisfy his cravings. For him his life revolves around alcohol and depriving him of it will cause him to devote all his energies to obtaining his next drink for which he is ready to do anything. No moral, social or legal restrictions apply to his alcohol crazed mind. He is not even responsible for his thoughts and actions.

The only way he can go is down, down and ultimately to an untimely end, causing a lot of grief to his family in the process, taking away from them, not giving to them.

These are occurrences which take place all the time in Colorado as elsewhere.

During periods of sobriety he may wonder where he is going, whether it is possible for him to reform and become normal and give it all up. However, alcohol is a chemical which affects his brain and takes over control to the extent that he is a slave and not a master. No sooner he decides to stop, the craving will force him to drink. The cycle repeats itself.

These are some succinct and valid reasons why an alcoholic needs to be treated at an alcohol rehab center in Colorado to turn him back into a normal human who understands normal human values of life and living. It is because only these centers are equipped to transform him.
